The style of the ancient blouse was the source of inspiration for many artist and fashion designers around the world. The first Blouse Roumaine prototype is considered to be created starting the 6th century B.C in Cucuteni culture. The ancient piece was called "ie". The name derived from Latin "tunicae linae" which means thin tunic.



The contemporary name of the traditional romanian blouse is actually renamed by Mattise's painting. La Blouse Roumaine is an oil-on-canvas painting by Henri Matisse from 1940. It measures 92 × 73 cm and is held at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.



Inspired by the painting of Henri Mattise, Yves Saint Laurent created for autumn-winter 1981 collection, “La blouse roumaine”.



In the past years most of the world’s top fashion designers were inspired by the Romanian embroidery style such as Gaultier, Tom Ford, Emilio Pucci, BCBG Max Azria and many others.
