A dress like a romantic novel written by classics such as Balzac . This piece of Romanian heritage is a handmade gawn with delicate handsewn silk leafes and flowers accros the front and sleeves. The cut of the dress is typycal for the 20s of the XX century, therefore the dress is probably made in the 20's or 30s. The motifs and embroidery are typical for bridal ceremonies, not o the rural are, but for the urban, middle class. The mastery of the dress can be observed by the superb details of the  traditional crochet stitch which are called "cheite", the crochetted cotton lace is closing the sided of the dresses from the armpit across the sleeves to the bottom of the dress. It is very probably that the dress had an apron to create an original bridal traditional costume, the linen cloth part was used to be completed with an traditional apron.

Marquisette is a sheer, lightweight mesh or net fabric with a leno weave. It can be made from almost any fibre: silk, cotton, wool, rayon, nylon, polyester and a blend of any of the above. It is used for dresses, curtains, and mosquito netting. It is very similar to grenadine, but with a slightly more open weave. Marquisette can look quite different depending on the fibres used and variants and finished applied to the weave

The contemporary name of the traditional romanian blouse is actually renamed by Mattise's painting. La Blouse Roumaine is an oil-on-canvas painting by Henri Matisse from 1940. It measures 92 × 73 cm and is held at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.

Inspired by the painting of Henri Mattise, Yves Saint Laurent created for autumn-winter 1981 collection, “La blouse roumaine”.
